Introduction
The first time Brazilian geologists considered presenting a proposal for Brazil to host the IGC occurredduring Canada′s Montreal venue in 1972. At that time, the Brazilian Delegation co mprised 12 members headed by Prof. Fernando Flávio Marques de Almeida (recently deceased), one of the most important geoscientists in the country and well known outside Brazil, thanks to his work for the Commission on the Geological Map of the World (CGMW).
