摘要

Urban Sociology is a textbook edited by Gu Chaolin,a wellknown scholar of urban studies in China,and published by Tsinghua University Press in 2013.The first edition of this book,published by the Southeast University Press in 2001,accumulated the main achievements of Gu Chaolin's early studies related to the field of urban sociology,and had a positive impact on the academic circle,education circle,and urban sociology studies during the next decade.In these years,Chinese cities underwent tremendous changes,and studies on urban sociology in China have also made great academic achievements.The Editor-in Chief mentioned in the Preface,that "in the process of socialist modernization in China from now until the mid-21st century,the city will be a pioneer,a center,and a strong driving force to promote socio-economic development,and social issues in cities will be sharper,more complex,and more serious than ever before." Therefore,scientific studies focusing on urban society will increasingly become an important and urgent task.It is in this background that the new edition of Urban Sociology was published.
