摘要

The 2016 Kumamoto earthquake (M 7.3 in the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) scale) sequence wrote a new chapter of active seismotectonics and subduction dynamics in the Japan Islands.This earthquake sequence,taking place in the upper crust beneath Kyushu Island (Fig.1),began with a strong foreshock (M 6.5) at local time 21:26 on 14 April 2016 and another big foreshock (M 6.4) at 00:03 on 15 April in the central part of Kumamoto Prefecture.
