For orthopedic surgery patients, deep venous thrombosis (DVT) which often results in pulmonary thromboembolism is the main cause of morbidity and mortality [1].The leading etiology of DVT was considered to be Virchow's triad, including vessel wall damage, venous stasis, and hypercoagulability. The damaged vessel wall endothelium stimulates the up-regulation of pro-coagulant and antifibrinolysis activity [2].Oxidative stress injury (OSI),which occurs during hypoxia, sepsis, and ischemia-reperfusion injury,is thought to cause endothelial cell (EC) damage and induce the coagulation cascade.Excessive reactive oxygen species lead to oxidative injury to ECs,which activates platelets and leukocytes, increases their adhesion and aggregation, and launches pro-coagulant reactions [3].In this regard, several studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of antioxidants in preventing EC damage [4].Thus,antioxidants are expected to be potential therapeutic agents for venous thrombosis.
