Oil and natural gas are high-quality fossil energy, basic chemical raw materials and important commoditiesrelated to the national economy and people's livelihood. They are of great significance for promoting sustained and healthy economic development, and improving people's living standards. After 70 years of development, China's oil and natural gas industry has increased its oil production from 120,000 tons in 1949 to 189 million tons in 2018, an increase of 1,574.9 times, representing an average annual growth rate of 11.3%;and its natural gas production has increased from a mere 10 million m3 in 1949 to 160.27 billion m3 in 2018, an increase of 22,894.7 times, representing an average annualgrowth rate of 15.7%.The average annual growth rates of oil and gas production are much higher than the average annual growth rate of 7.6% in China's energy production during the same period.Through the painstaking efforts of several generations, China has built an oil and gas industry chain covering oil and gas exploration and development, pipeline storage and transportation, refining and chemical engineering, and product sales and trade integration, and formed a modern petroleum industry system with a large scale, internationally competitive oilfield services, petroleum and petrochemical engineering construction, and equipment manufacturing business.
