It could be described as an accident of fate that Zhang Yongping got engaged in the field of reservoir stimulation.When he was assigned to work at Daqing Oil Production Engineering Institute,the leadership had meant to give him an information-related post because of his left leg disability.But by the time of reporting for duty at the Institute,another new employee went there earlier than him and,coincidentally,a computer-based project needed help at that time.So this new employee was assigned to work at the information centre.As a result,Zhang Yongping was assigned to conduct research on fracturing technology at the Oilfield Chemistry Lab.He preferred going to the oilfield construction sites to doing computer-based work,as he once said:"My major at school was about engineering.Of course,I should do engineering work."Since then,he has been working in the fracturing field for 34 years.
