摘要

Tess is the heroine in Tess of the D’Urbervilles. She is a shining image in English literature. No people will not sigh and shed tears for her destiny when they read the novel. What causes her tragedy? Who should be answerable for her death? In this paper the author will analyze these from the perspective of the heroine herself and also from the perspective of the society.
