摘要

Color words are the wealth of vocabulary,and they are the connection between colors and language,which not only reflects human perception to colors but also embodies languages’characteristics.The fact that color words are widely used in a language shows that they are functionally practical.However,there are a lot of differences in the usages and connotations of"red"between Chinese and English.Man has a common feeling about"red",because"red"cannot only express the natural gorgeous colors,but also reflect the view of value and the aesthetic standards of a people.To this point,"red"has more than its literal meaning.It also has rich connotation meanings.This article analyzes the cultural differences of"red"from the historical tradition,religious beliefs,habits and customs and social reasons etc.And then it probes into their influences on the two languages with detailed discussion,pointing out the similarities and differences which exist in the language performance.Because the cultural difference has brought barriers on translation and international communication,this essay will be paid more attention on the different connotations of"red".Then the paper discusses the way of how to deal with the cultural differences in human communication that is to take the right translation of the expressions of"red".Finally,this essay will be devoted to find out some reasons causing the discrepancies of the connotations of"red".Through analyzing and understanding some differences between two nations,learners are able to avoid the barrier in the international communication so that they can achieve the goal of successful communication and learn English better.
