Currently, many college students watch American TV series to study English and some American TV Series resources have been ushered to the college English class. This research commences from studying a class of Shanghai Normal University, Tianhua College, aiming to explore advantages and disadvantages of American TV series when it is used as English learning resources. It is implied that when it comes to teaching college English based on American TV series, the teacher should select high quality video materials in advance, guide students to form rational cultural exchange values. Furthermore, when playing the American audio-visual materials, the teacher must illustrate key language points and help students to absorb and review them for the sake of better learning effects of the students.
