摘要

The famous American sitcom Friends has a great influence on generations of young Chinese people.It tells stories about American daily life and reflects American culture and customs in all aspects,so it is one of the best material for Chinese audience to get to know America and western countries.The translation of its subtitle plays an important role in the process of acculturation.In Friends,the translator used both domestication and foreignization theory to help audience acquire a clearer comprehension.As a series which was introduced to China at an early time,its translation theory enlightened subsequent generation of translators.There⁃fore,it is of great importance to analyze the use of domestication and foreignization theory in Friends and adopt it in other cases.
