摘要

William Faulkner is one of the leading writers of Southern American Literature, and the short story A Rose for Emily is his masterpiece. This novel has been studied from a feminist perspective, stream of consciousness, or the perspective of translation. What's more, the symbolism was a distinctive feature of it. With the superb use of symbolic techniques, William Faulkner has suc-ceeded in portraying Emily's tragic life and expressed his complex feelings for the South, making it monumental work.
