The tenacity of the mother Chie, who wants to help her eldest son Ei’ichiro pass the entrance exam to the prestigious private Z Middle School, reaches the level of religious prayer. Chie’s intensity is transmitted—to the point of eliciting pain—to her husband Akio, who endeavors to join Chie in this aspiration at any cost. By considering the portrayal of religious factors, this article seeks to shed light on the manner in which Akio and Chie rely on prayer and how they use religion. In addition,observations will be offered about the influence of the parents’attitudes on Ei’ichiro.
