摘要

This article aims to provide an adequate interpretation for the dynamic construction of identity in private setting context in China. Naturally occurring conversations between single mother and daughter were examined by using discourse analysis. The result shows that participants in spoken interaction do not always communicate with each other through the expected/default identities. Rather they sometimes deviate from the identities that they are expected to construct.
