Over the years, much importance has been increasingly attached to the ability of using English, especially the mastery of communicative skills, by the overall public and society. Despite the importance placed on English learning, criticism never stops, accusing Chinese learners of‘high scores, low abilities’,‘deaf English’, and‘mute English’. One of the effective approaches acknowledged admittedly to solve these problems is to promote English study through watching American situation comedy, also known as sitcom, besides its prominent survival and success imperceptibly exert improvement on the learning of English as well. Based on the analysis of the present learning situation and the learning obstacles of Chinese learners, this paper tries to briefly elaborate how American sitcoms can stimulate and positively affect the learning of English, in terms of factors of cultural spread, the shift of aesthetic value, the choice from current fashion, and the evolvement of learning style in this cyber age.
